UNESCO
The idea for World Heritage Day was proposed by the
International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in
1982 and was later approved by UNESCO (United Nations

during the 22nd General Conference in 1983.
How many World Heritage sites are there in India?
As of 2022, there are 40 World Heritage Sites located in India.
Out of these, 32 are cultural, 7 are natural, and one, the
Khangchendzonga National Park, is of mixed type.
