WORLD MALARIA DAY - 25 APRIL 2022

World Malaria Day is an occasion to highlight the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment for malaria prevention and control. It was instituted by WHO Member States during the World Health Assembly of 2007.

Dr. Alphonse Laveran, a military doctor in France's Service de Santé des Armées (Health Service of the Armed Forces). The military hospital in Constantine (Algeria), where Laveran discovered the malaria parasite in 1880.

World Malaria Day, annual observance held on April 25 to raise awareness of the global effort to control and ultimately eradicate malaria. World Malaria Day, which was first held in 2008, developed from Africa Malaria Day, an event that had been observed since 2001 by African governments.

World Malaria Day is celebrated every year on 25 April to raise awareness about the disease malaria, how to control it and how to eradicate it completely. In 2008, the first Malaria Day was celebrated, which was developed from Africa Malaria Day, which was an event observed since 2001 by the African governments. At the 60th session of the World Health Assembly in 2007, it was proposed that Africa Malaria Day be changed to World Malaria Day.

This year's theme, “Harness innovation to reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives”, aligns with my call to urgently scale up innovation and the deployment of new tools in the fight against malaria, while advocating for equitable access to malaria prevention and treatment, within the context of building health.

Five species of Plasmodium (single-celled parasites) can infect humans and cause illness:
  • Plasmodium falciparum (or P. falciparum)
  • Plasmodium malariae (or P. malariae)
  • Plasmodium vivax (or P. vivax)
  • Plasmodium ovale (or P. ovale)
  • Plasmodium knowlesi (or P. knowlesi)

RTS,S/ASO1 (RTS. S), trade name Mosquirix, which was endorsed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Wednesday (October 6), is the first and, to date only, vaccine shown to have the capability of significantly reducing malaria, and life-threatening severe malaria, in tests on young African children.

The main current measures are focused on reduction of the contact between mosquitoes and humans, the destruction of larvae by environmental management and the use of larvicides or mosquito larvae predators, and destruction of adult mosquitoes by indoor residual spraying and insecticide-treated bed nets.

The first effective treatment for malaria came from the bark of the cinchona tree, which contains quinine.

Artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) are the recommended treatments for uncomplicated falciparum malaria. The following ACTs are recommended: – Artemether + lumefantrine; artesunate + amodiaquine; artesunate + mefloquine; artesunate + sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine, and dihydroartemisinin + piperaquine .

Turmeric helps in flushing out those toxins. Moreover, having anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric can reduce the symptoms of malaria including joint and muscle pain. All you need to do is to add a spoon of turmeric in a glass of hot milk and drink it daily at night.
