National Reading Day 2022: History, significance and celebration of the day ( KV Dappar)

The
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) celebrates National Reading Day annually on 19 June. The Day is celebrated to honour the father of the ‘Library Movement in Kerala’, the late P.N. Panicker, whose death anniversary falls on June 19. In 2021, 26th National Reading Day is being celebrated. The week following June 19 will be observed as Reading Week and the entire month till July 18 will be observed as Reading Month.

The first Reading Day celebration was held in 1996. On June 19, 2017, Prime Minister launched the 22nd National Reading Month Celebrations and called for unity to spread the message of ‘Read and Grow’ among all the citizens of the country by 2022.

National Reading Day 2022: In India, National Reading Day is observed every year on the 19th of June. National Reading Day is celebrated to spread awareness among the young generation about the importance of reading. The habit of reading should be developed in everyone because reading not only increases our knowledge but also makes the individual pacific, concentrated and patient. National Reading Day is also known as Vaayanadinam and this name has been given by the Government of Kerala. In this post we have discussed about the history, significance and theme of National Reading Day.

National Reading Day 2022: History

National Reading Day is celebrated to honor the Keralian Teacher, Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker. P.N Panicker died on 19th June 1995 and to pay tribute to his contributions it was decided to celebrate National Reading Day. The first National Reading Day was celebrated on 19th June 1996 by P N Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra and P N Panicker Foundation.

For his enormous contributions P.N Panicker is known as the father of the “Library Movement in Kerala”. Under the  Kerala Grandhasala Sangham (KGS), P N Panicker established 47 libraries in 1946. The Kerala Grandhasala Sangham was formerly known as Thiruvithaamkoor Granthasala Sangham or the Travancore Library Association. To remember the legacy of P N Panicker Ministry of Education under the Government of India issued a stamp on 21st June 2004.

National Reading Day 2022: Significance

National Reading Day is celebrated to make people realize the importance of reading. Reading is one of the good habits which makes our reading skills, creative skills, analytical skills, vocabulary and concentration power strong. In today’s time reading habit has been reduced because people mostly prefer other modes of entertainment like mobile, television, etc. The P N Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra and P N Panicker Foundation have been celebrating National Reading Day by organizing events and competitions in schools and colleges related to reading. Through these events the organizations make the young generation aware about the reading habit and make sure that they inculcate this good habit.

National Reading Day 2022: Theme

The theme of 27th National Reading Day 2022 is “Read and Grow”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the 22nd National Reading Month Celebrations on 19th June 2017. In his inauguration speech he asked the people of the country to expand the theme “Read and Grow” and continue this process till 2022. So since 2017 every year the theme of the National Reading Day remains the same. The P N Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra and P N Panicker Foundation on the occasion of National Reading Day commemorates digital reading month as well as digital week.

(International Yoga Day Logo)

(Yoga Quotes in Hindi)

It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day."

Importance of Yoga

Practiced in India since the 5th century, Yoga has been beneficial in keeping the body and mind in sound health. A holistic approach, Yoga targets all the different systems of the body and mind. It is said that the asanas make the body strong and flexible, as health improves; the mind too is renewed with confidence. The practice of Pranayama regulates the purification of the internal system and the organs, acting as a superior and able supplement to asanas. The energy that is generated in the body through these physical practices is then channeled into meditation or Dhyan for stability, peace and calm.

What are the objectives of the International Day of Yoga

- Make people aware of the benefits of yoga and connect them with nature.

- To reduce the rate of health-challenging diseases in the world.

- Spreading growth, development, and peace throughout the world.

- Making people aware of physical and mental illnesses and providing solutions through yoga.- It also aims to develop a habit of meditation for peace of mind, self-awareness which is necessary to survive in a stress-free environment.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES ON INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

  • Yoga takes you into the present moment. The only place where life exists
  • Yoga is a mirror to look at ourselves from within.
  • When you listen to yourself, everything comes naturally. It comes from inside, like a kind of will to do something. Try to be sensitive. That is yoga.
  • Yoga is not a work-out, it is a work-in, and this is the point of spiritual practice, to make us teachable. To open up our hearts and focus on our awareness so that we can know what we already know and be who we already are
  • Yoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees
